Ten fledgling swallows awaiting airborne support from their parents, in the form of wee insects...and one shy, young chaffinch, trying to blend in and join in with the meal.

Eastern meadowlark is songbird that belongs to the blackbird family. There are 17 subspecies of eastern meadowlarks that can be found in the eastern parts of North, Central and South America. Eastern meadowlark inhabits grasslands, prairies, pastures, agricultural fields and areas near the roads. Accelerated development of agriculture and pollution of the ground with pesticides negatively affect survival of eastern meadowlarks in the wild. Despite these factors, population of eastern meadowlarks is still large and stable.

Eastern meadowlarks have an expected lifespan of five years in the wild, which is the same as the high end of its expected lifespan in captivity. The longest know lifespan in the wild is nine years.

Thanks so much for the visit!

I shot this cute bird at the Bird Kingdom last month.

I could be totally wrong, but it may be a Collared Finch-Billed Bulbul.

Thanks for looking, etc.:)

When I entered the Garden of Fragrance in Singapore Chinese Garden today, I saw this bird walking along the edge of Jurong Lake. It was apparently looking for food in the lake.

From its physical features and the way it walked, I thought that it was a young heron but I was not absolutely certain. Until fairly recently, I was very much an indoor person who did not pay much attention to the surrounding world of nature.

Flickrians who are interested in the world of birds may like to check out Corinne von Nordmann's photostream which contains beautiful images of 'superstar' birds.

P.S. From similar images I have found through Google searches, I can now say, "Yes, it's a heron!" More precisely, it is a Little Heron.
