I photographed this amphibious automobile, the Amphicar, with my iPhone while I was in Jackson, WY last summer. There were only 4500 of these produced out of Berlin, Germany from 1962 to 1967 (and most of these, about 3700, came to the USA). There are estimated to be only about 585 still in regular use today. I was waiting for my friend outside her house when I saw a huge orb web spider in a web with a beautiful cloudy blue sky behind it, great shot I thought if I can manage the focus. I only had my G10 with me, so tried a shot, it was rubbish. As I was reviewing the shot I heard a strange motor noise from down the road and saw this red classic car driving towards me. I have been seeing some excellent shots from a flickr friend of mine (Dogeed) and decided to try a shot. I had one shot, couldn’t focus or set aperture or speed, and only had time to switch to “idiot mode”, point, pan and shoot. This is the result, well, not exactly.
The car was actually doing less than 20 miles per hour, but I thought wouldn’t it be nice if it looked like it was moving at high speed and didn’t have those lamp posts in the shot, if the light was a bit better. You know the scenario, so Photoshop to the rescue. I don’t use a lot of Photoshop, but enough to get this done. What do you think?
I know some people don’t like using Photoshop, but what the heck, I think the result is worth it...
I’ve posted the original so you can see what work was done... Enjoy it Large...
Another Ferrari 250 LM, this time S/N 6313 piloted by Gary Pearson at the Revival.
This car started out as a red 250 LM, placing 2nd in the Le Mans 24hr driven by Pierre Dumay and Gustave Gosselin.
Owned by Juan Barazi from 2001, and since 2005 by Carlos Monteverde, the car has competed in a number of classic events with some success - it placed 1st in the Ferrari Maserati Historic Challenge, Mugello in 2008 and then had back to back wins in the two races at the 10,000 Tours du Castellet, Nastro Rosso in 2013.
