Each time I travel Highway 395, I stop at this little house to see if it’s still standing. This year my thoughts turn to wondering about which of us will be the first to fall… this structure is tough. Probably like the Folks who built it.

When in England, we stayed with Sarah Fraser, my very good friend that I met on Flickr. While there, we met up with Gary Neave, also from Flickr, and we all went to Hastings, a wonderful coastal town. We took a funicular tram to the top of a rocky hill, and this was the view from the top, looking down at all the roofs and houses.

The Red House was once a popular Bakery & Confectionery shop at Katong. This bakery was a popular breakfast haunt among Singaporeans living in the eastern part of Singapore, especially for its signature cakes and curry puffs. It was established in 1925 and located at 75 East Coast Road. It was closed on 23 March 2003 after the shophouse where it was occupying was deemed as unsafe.

Today, the shophouse where the bakery once stood and the adjacent shophouses along the stretch of East Coast Road are being restored as a residential-retail-lifestyle heritage development. The Red House Project is slated to be completed by the second quarter of 2016, which includes a bakery and heritage gallery, with artefacts from the old bakery.

A few minor adjustments and I've managed to recuse this image. I was disappointed that due to fog and overcast weather this image didn't turn out the way I'd hoped but playing with the flickr editor I think I've managed to give it the life it lacked.
