EXIF Data -- What Exactly is Shared?

stuzbot says:

As the title suggests. I'm trying to find out exactly what EXIF data is shared when/if I make it public. Obviously Flickr isn't going to publicise all the fields available. But what is included?

In my Privacy & Permissions settings page it says:

But on the EXIF data FAQ page it says:

So the settings page suggests only info about the camera/lens used is displayed, whereas the FAQ page suggests that some undefined "other settings" are also displayed.

The reason I ask is that, while I don't mind people being able to see the equipment I used, the camera settings, the shooting date, etc. I'm less comfortable with the idea of things like location info being made public. Especially for photos taken in and around my home or the homes of friends and family.

you can edit the exif data before uploading & remove any location data (if your camera adds it)

also you can disable it from all uploads

if you are unsure then do a wee check with a picture that isnt from somewhere you are sensitive about and check out what can be seen

AFAIK the GPS data in the EXIF are not visible for those who cannot see the location on the map either. That you control on this setting page: www.flickr.com/account/geo/privacy/?from=privacy
Be aware, this is a setting for new uploads, it doesn't affect already uploaded pictures.

However changing the visibility of the EXIF with the setting on this page www.flickr.com/account/prefs/exifprivacy/?from=privacy will make the EXIF visible for prior uploaded photos. I don't know what the effect will be for the GPS data of those photos. I recommend this:

When checking, be sure you're not signed in.
