[Acknowledged by Flickr Staff] Manage Your Members Search has disappeared

Leo Reynolds says:

Group page > Administration > Manage Your Members > Members

The members page is no longer showing a Search box.

Is this a bug or has the search been removed?

Ger Bosma:

Exactly the sentiment I was trying to express a few days ago. And someone from the staff could come here regularly to reassure us (at least during work days), give us progress reports, make us understand that they are doing something (even if they're so very bad at it that it takes weeks). I'm sure we will not get any discount of our next subscription period, even though this problem hampers our ability to administer our groups for the common good.

As I said again, I am at the point where I hope Flickr may one day be acquired by Amazon —at least, they know what customer service means. They do also have programming glitches sometimes (rarely, but they do), and as far as I can tell, those get fixed within hours.

I have just tried to see who is a member in one of my groups, but there is no way to do this. I was using the new Beta when I did this. I thought it was fixed but it's not!
Flickr staff have not even responded to continued reports of problems for 2 weeks now. I'm so disappointed with this continued silence from them!! Please respond Staff!!!

It is really hard to understand why it takes so long to fix it. Not to mention how something like this happens. The absence of communication of the staff is slowly unacceptable. It is really annoying to go on administrating properly a group. Almost 3 weeks now!

Agree with Pierre. On my Manage Members page on both Firefox and Chrome the search function and page number links are missing. I have contacted Flickr twice and it still isn't fixed.

It makes it very difficult to properly administer groups.

Come on Flickr, please fix this issue.

With 101,993 members in my group that is simply unworkable.

Those provisions exist everywhere, and are often deemed abusive by courts in many jurisdictions, at least in Europe. But more to the point, they do not preclude a voluntary gesture from the provider at fault towards the paying customers that they have hurt as a result of their negligence to restore a significant feature.

the service you request to be fixed is a service available to any admin or mod, Pro or Free, it is not a feature exclusive to Pro members. Also, just in case they honor your request, make clear just who is "we"? All Pro members? All Pro members that are admins or mods? Only the Pros in this thread? Any Pro in any thread that currently has a bug that is three weeks old or older?

L’Arsène:

I dont think McNod was suggesting any discount for anyone. But if there was a discount given out, there is no reason it couldnt be offered to free account holders to encourage them to go pro.

I'd prefer they dont give out compensation (and I am sure they wont and they clearly dont have to do so in terms of the agreement we have all signed up to as quoted by McNod)

It is clear to us all that Flickr staff (for development/fixing/communication) are a small and stretched team. There is so much stuff that needs sorted and it needs people (money) applied to do this. Any compensation for regular glitches and bugs would be spending money needed for fixing stuff.

None, as I said, I agreed that the service is as is - until I didn't, that was last December when I let my Pro run out after many years. I still wait for the day that I can resume telling my story on flickr through photograghs, but that day will not be here until they fix all the bugs introduced these past two years, and when they stop introducing what seems to be at least one new bug or loss of feature each and every week. I will pay for a service, not to be a Beta Tester for new code.

But let's see what I think you should get ... you pay what, about 35 US cents a day? Most of that goes to paying for servers, staff, building rent, additional paid for features and benefits over the basic free account and more, it's been about 32 days since this issue hit and considering all of the features that do work ... I'm gonna say ... 32 US cents so far. If you close your group to new submissions until this issue is sorted, I'll double my assessment.

I don't know if data loss is the problem, because the pages are still there and you can access them manually by appending the URL with the specific page number (go to the first page of this discussion for the response with specifics on how to do this). I sent a feedback today and asked when the bug will be resolved. The answer:

The bug affecting Group management has proven to be a trickier issue than expected and our engineers are still working to resolve the issue. At this time, I do not have a concrete update of when the issue will be resolved. I know this is frustrating but our Product Team is working to get this issue solved as soon as possible.
I learned three things during my work as software engineer:
• Error-free software is the devil's work.
• The more experienced you are, the more complex your errors are.
• When you pull sth. in the front, you have to consider what can move in the back.

Let me guess: They tried to solve another bug and shot the group member administration. Now they are between Scylla and Charybdis because going back to the former version means to reactivate the other bug. But solving this means to affect the group member administration again.

On the other hand, as the VISA card I pay my Pro membership with is about to expire this month, I am happy to announce that I have unfailingly received an automated notice inviting me to fill out my new card details, so that my next membership payment can be promptly collected... THAT part of the software works flawlessly, I can assure you!

I am an admin in 8 groups on the Flickr platform. In the administration panel of each of my groups, I cannot manage group members. Only the last 25 members of the group are visible here. Doesn't work:
- viewing group members
- you cannot 'ban' members
- you cannot remove a member from the group
- you cannot change the role of a group member (e.g. you cannot make anyone an admin or moderator).

I consulted this problem with several admins of Flickr groups. Everyone has had the same problem for 4 weeks.

I wrote about this bug about this 4 weeks ago to the Help Center. They suggested to changing my browser, changing firewall options, VPN or other ridiculous suggestions. All these options have been tested by many people and this is not the problem. As I'm IT professional, please don't bullshit!

What should I do to make member XXX an administrator in my group? Why can't I find and ban a malicious group member?

Email from Flickr on 24 September to myself reads:

"Hi Chris,

Nafeesa from Flickr Support here. Thank you for reaching out to us

The issue you are experiencing with the manage members page has been reported to us by a small number of members.

I apologize for any trouble this is causing. Our engineers are aware of the issue and working on a resolution, and I added your name to the list of affected members.

I'll reach out to you once I have any major updates.

Once again, I apologize for any trouble this has caused. In the mean time, please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns, and I will be happy to help.

Best,

The other problem, starting about the same time, not to be able to see any members in any group, seems to not be universal: I have recently been able to see members of some groups, but for most of them that I have tried, the members page is simply blank under the header, without any spinning balls or anything.

Please don't misunderstand the Flickr support mail. They said that the issue "has been reported to us by a small number of members". They didn't assert that only a small number of users is affected. I suppose that many group admin haven't realized the problem so far because they don't use the "manage your members" function that much.
